Kora awards 2008 (calabar 2008)
The coveted Kora All-Music awards has this year moved to Tinapa Free Trade Zone and Resort in Calabar - Crossriver State of Nigeria. This is moving aware from its traditional South Africa, where it has been staged for 10 years. This year’s event will witness the best African artiste or group taking home a whopping $1m courtesy of First Bank of Nigeria Plc. However, the process through which the prize money will be won has not augured well with some stakeholders.
KORA is now in Calabar to stay for a minimum of five years. KORA 2008, with a marketing slogan “One Billion Viewers…..One Hundred countries….One Hundred Artistes…….One Amazing Prize………….One Million US Dollars” kicked off with a launch last year December 20, 2007 in Nigeria. In February 2 2008, KORA hosted a big Nigerian Entertainment Editors to a lunch party in Lagos, which was then followed by a press conference in Lagos to announce the calendar for KORA 2008. Full release of the event calendar for KORA 2008.
Come 6 December 2008, the awards ceremony we’ve all been waiting for will touch base in Nigeria. All roads will be leading to Calabar, Nigeria for the biggest awards ceremony ever in Africa.
Speaking to Mr. Ernest Adjovi, President and Executive Producer of KORA Music Awards Limited, this is what he had to say: “History will tell one day the real reason behind KORA’S absence. I believe there are always good reasons behind GOD’s decisions and moves. To all and each of you, thank you for the support thus far".
To all of you journalists, to the members of your family, to your colleagues and staff, allow me on behalf of the KORA organization to present our wishes of good health and happiness. The rest, by the grace of GOD will follow. The KORA machine is on the move
The awards organizers had earlier announced that nominees for the Best African Act in each zone would perform before an audience - a zonal concert of some sort- afterwhich fans would cast their votes via sms or any other voting medium as announced by zonal organizers. Similar voting process will be conducted for the emerging zonal winners
