Imoke assures Agoi Community of Access Road 13/5/08

The anguish situation currently being encountered by the people of Agoi Ekpo, Yakurr LGA due to lack of an access road in transporting their farm produce to other parts of the country will soon be a thing of the past with the completion of the Nko – Agoi Ekpo Road.

The hope of the people was raised when Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State addressed them, Thursday while inspecting work on the bridge which will link the two communities.

Imoke, who addressed the cheering crowd from the Nko bank of the river, assured them that the bridge under construction would soon be completed to complement the access road also currently under construction, restating government’s determination to get to those communities that need it most.

The Governor, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for works, Hon. Edward Ogan also inspected the reconstructed Ekori – Ekori Beach Road also in Yakurr LGA.

On the Akpet Central – Okurike Road in Biase LGA, the Managing Director of the Company handling the reconstruction of the 10 kilometre road, Mr. William Archibong, informed the Governor that work on the road will be completed before the end of July, explaining that eight kilometer of the road will be surface dressed while the remaining kilometre will be graded because of the terrain of the bank of Cross River.

According to Archibong, the first phase of the job which included coating has been finished before the rains set in and that construction of drains will commence at the completion of the road.

The Governor, who was visibly uncomfortable with a portion of the road where a culvert was blocked thereby creating a chance for a flowing stream to cross the road which could cause a threat, advised that a culvert be built to evade disaster.

The Speaker of the Okurike Council of Chiefs Chief pastor Moses Nkanu Onoghen commended the State Government for attending to the road which according to him had been in deplorable state, but advised that the contractor should also pay attention to the drains as their absence in the road project was capable of causing disaster in the area.
