State Government Inaugurates Project Monitoring Committee 16/5/08
The Cross River State Government has inaugurated a seven man project monitoring committee to ensure the realization of it set goals.
The Committee has Mr. Eja D. Esege as Chairman, while Joseph Umo Edem, Agabi Oko, Etim John, Ferdinand Mbang, Francis Matiki and Urobok Kingsly Inyang will serve as members.
Speaking at the ceremony in Calabar Tuesday, the State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke stated that, “the setting up of the committee is another step in a march towards providing Cross Riverians with accountable and responsive governance in line with our policy thrust”.
He maintained that the committee is not meant to strip Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of their statutory role of monitoring projects but to complement such effort in a quest to ensure realization of set targets on projects/programmes across board.
Imoke pointed that its scope shall cover the 18 Local Government Areas whom he noted over the years have been faced with insufficient project management and raised the hope that the committee would ensure that only practicable and cost effective projects are executed at all levels.
The Governor charged them to shun all forms of corruptible act and be upright while discharging their assigned duties by showing all levels of commitment to the realization of the vision of the administration.
He called on the Chairman, whom he said shall be a member of the State Executive Council, to enable him follows the trend of events, with adequate data base to ensure that projects do not suffer during execution by checking all its challenges and feed the Exco with such template for necessary action and wished them a fruitful outing.
In his introductory remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Fidelis Ugbo stated that the process of reforms in the public service is ongoing which is why it has introduced a number of measures such as Due Process which demands value for every public fund expended in a desire to offer better service that has direct impact on the people.
He maintained that without proper monitoring of its projects, government would not have it projects successfully executed, adding that membership of the committee which were carefully selected were equal to the task.
Responding on behalf of the members of the committee, the Chairman, Mr. Eja Dons Esege, appealed to government to empower the committee with the necessary logistics while soliciting the co-operation of all the stake holders and promised to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government and the people of the state.
