Cross River to Host Next Senate Retreat – Mark (4/7/08)
The serenity and cleanliness of Cross River has won the admiration of the Senate President, Senator David Mark which has culminated in his wanting the next retreat of the Senate to be held in Calabar.
While paying a courtesy call on Governor Liyel Imoke in Calabar prelude before the two day retreat for PDP National working Committee members holding in Calabar Thursday, Mark, who stated that “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” said he would continue to identify with the State and its people in keeping the city clean, saying that the clean environment will encourage them to deliberate constructively for the development of the nation.
Mark, accompanied by the Deputy Senate Leader Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw and Minister for Information and Communication Mr. John Odey, therefore enjoined other states to emulate the clean state of Cross River while expressing his happiness with what the party is doing in the state to lay a sound foundation, adding that the national chairman of the party, other strong members of the party and other functionaries have done a lot to improve on the foundation of the party in its desire to rule the nation for the next 60 years.
The Senate President said the party will work assiduously to entrench democracy and rule of law in the country.
Responding, Governor Liyel Imoke disclosed that the state focuses on tourism development and that the venue of the two day retreat, Tinapa Business Resort will open its doors as soon as the Federal government gives its operating guidelines, enjoining members of the party meeting in the state to call for early release of the guidelines.
Imoke referred to Cross River as a strong PDP state saying that the party is cohesive with no factions, and no dispute which has ensured complete focus on governance, to the benefit of the people.
He described the presence of PDP big wigs in the state as unique and that the state sees it as an honour to host the national working committee of the party in its effort to deliberate on the way of moving the party forward.
