Cross River Carts NDAA awards 2008 as Imoke pledges to Work Harder (2/4/08)
Cross River State has carted eight of the awards given out during the Niger Delta Advancement Awards (NDAA) 2008 at the Grand Hotel, Asaba on April, 3.
Receiving the Awards from the Commissioner for Sports, Youth Development and Orientation Ntufam Okon Asim, Governor Liyel Imoke acknowledged the contributions of members of the State Executive Council in developing the State, adding that he saw the awards as a challenge not to rest on their oars but improve in their efforts to deliver their promises to the people of Cross River.
Imoke said government is determined to exhibit commitment to good governance, transparency and Due Process in its efforts to move the state to the next level and that it will stop at nothing to ensure there is transformation across the state.
The Governor commended organizers of the award for using clear cut criteria as measurement for excellence and for acknowledging those that perform well within the region in their efforts to provide dividends of democracy and good governance thereby creating wealth and job while thanking those that represented the state at the award ceremony for doing the State well.
He restated governments’ determination to impact positively on the lives of its citizenry in its poise to reposition the state as the preferred destination within the West African Sub Region, stressing that the awards will further challenge the state to improve on its performance in the years ahead.
Presenting the awards, the State’s representative at the April 3, NDAA Awards 2008, and Commissioner for Youth Development, Sports and Orientation, Ntufam Edet Okon Asim said the award was put together by corporate bodies and individuals with the support of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in recognition of contribution to excellence and performance within the Niger Delta.
According to Asim, other criteria included efforts to ensure peaceful co-existence and maintenance of peace among people of varied backgrounds and ethnic formations, disclosing that some of the sponsors of the award include Arik Air, NDDC, Aero Contractor and Julius Berger and all the states within the region participated in the award, which was not a gimmick but real.
Asim disclosed that Cross River will host the 2009 Award and listed the awards won by the State to include Most Improved State of the Year, Senator Liyel Imoke - Culture and Tourism Ambassador, State Government Project of the Year Employment Generation and Society in Calabar and Mrs. Obioma Imoke honoured for Supporting Women and Culture.
Others are Secretary to State Government of the Year Mr. Fidelis Ugbo, Youth Supportive Government of the Year – Cross River State, Sports Supportive Government of the Year-Cross River State Government and Women Supportive Government of the year – Cross River State.
According to him, the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Patrick Ugbe won a Honourary Award while the Economic Adviser, Dr. Ndem Ayara Ndiyo was nominated as the Best Adviser.
