No Development without Infrastructure Ex-Governor (25/7/08)

The former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke has asserted that without putting the right infrastructural facilities in place, the country will not achieve any meaningful development.

While receiving the people of Obudu led by Dr. Peter Ogbang who paid him a solidarity visit in his private residence in Calabar, Thursday, Imoke contended that it was on this hill that his last administration embarked on massive provision of the necessary infrastructure especially at the grass root level to affect development.

He maintained that as part of effort to fast track development in Obudu, his administration started the bidding process to resuscitate the over one decade Federal Government initiated Obudu dam project which is still uncompleted for its enormous potential to be fully utilized thereby making the town regain its former status of government residential area (GRA).

Imoke commended the people for the solidarity moves which he noted shows love, concern and their accepting him as the son of Obudu, stressing that their move which is the first he has received since the election nullification by the Appeal Court clearly demonstrates that they understand his line of vision as well as the direction he is going in a quest to impacting positively on the lives of the citizenry and lauded them for their overwhelming support.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and former Federal Commissioner (equivalent to present Minister) Dr Peter Ogbang said that the people of Obudu came as a community to reassure him of their unwoven loyalty and support in the re-run election as ordered by the Appeal Court recently.

He stated that their support was solid in the April 2007 polls and reaffirmed their readiness to mobilize Obudu and the entire Northern Senatorial District to surpass the former feat they recorded, adding that the people understand his policy direction and so deem it fit to give him their mandate.

Paramount ruler of Obudu, His Royal Highness Uti Joseph Davis Agba, Clan Heads, and Political Chieftain, women group and youth joined in the solidarity visit.
