Cross River Legislators condemn Newspaper paid report on Imoke, solicit support (18/8/08)
The Cross River State House of Assembly has reacted to a recent newspaper and magazine publication aimed at rubbishing the image of Senator Liyel Imoke erstwhile governor of the state who is also the PDP governorship candidate for the August 23,2008 election.
The House in a unanimous resolution, condemned in strong terms what it called “the campaign of calumny, repeated falsehood and character assassination on the pages of newspapers against Senator Liyel Imoke especially the publication of August 13, 2008 in “This Day” by a phantom body “National Youth Transparency Group”
It also reiterated its confidence in the former governor and the PDP candidate for the gubernatorial rerun election on August 23, 2008 and prayed he wins “to continue his good works”.
In a resolution which was read by Hon. Fabian Okpa (Obubra 1) and Deputy Leader of the House, the House on behalf of members, called on all well meaning Cross Riverians and indeed Nigerians, to reject the deliberate falsehood against Imoke, and also appealed to Cross Riverians to go out enmass and vote in the coming elections.
It implored the leadership of PDP, EFCC, ICPC, INEC, IG, etc to totally ignore the publication “by these faceless groups whose desire is the truncation of democracy and frustration of Cross Riverians.”
The House reaffirmed its absolute loyalty, support and implicit confidence in the candidature of Senator Liyel Imoke in the governorship rerun election 2008.
